I’ve been sailing with Mike for the last 5 and half years, including regular racing on Sydney harbour, multi-day yacht deliveries up Australia’s coast, and ocean races including the Sydney to Hobart. There’s nobody whose knowledge and experience I trust more, particularly in rough seas!

What learning to sail has taught me about life
I have been on two sailing holidays with Mike. The first, travelling around and between Sardinia and Corsica, was my first time sailing ever. What a lot of exhilarating firsts…
The first time the engine is switched off and you realise that the wind in the sails is powering the boat forward
The first time you jump off a perfectly good boat and swim ashore, just for the fun of it and the glass of rose at the beach taverna
The first time you drop anchor in a quiet bay to sleep under the stars and wake to the perfect sunrise over the headland
I learned that holiday how to steer, how to adjust the sails, prepare for coming into port, …but most of all, I learned the truth that we really can’t control the wind, far better to change our plans and go with the flow. I realised that I could throw myself whole-heartedly into something completely new and come out with the biggest smile on my face. I experienced teamwork and communication that would beat any corporate setting.
So when I had the chance to join Mike for a second trip, I had to go, thinking it couldn’t possibly top the first. I was wrong. Making an epic voyage across the Aegean Sea, this time we sailed by starlight, raced dolphins, and approached the home-port of Athens from the sea.
No surprise that I’m coming back for more this year and I’m bringing my crew with me. Mike, you’d better be ready 🙂

Mike’s obvious experience, understanding and social skills fit very well with a novice sailor. He makes you feel at ease and is always willing to field the most basic questions and to provide clear, simple instructions. He’s very good at making you feel part of a group and bringing out the best in each individual.
We had a brilliant 2 weeks sailing around Corsica and Sardinia. My wife has a good amount of sailing experience, so this was a great test to see how well we could sail together before we buy our own boat. Our night sail and Mike’s astronomy lesson was a definite highlight of an excellent trip.
